Scabies is a very contagious skin condition caused by contamination with parasite microscopic mites. The mite responsible for causing scabies in humans is called Sarcoptes scabiei var. hominis and it can be easily acquired through contact with infested people or contaminated objects. Due to its very contagious character, scabies is very likely to cause serious epidemics in overcrowded orphanages, nursing homes, kindergartens and schools.

In order to prevent the spreading of scabies, doctors recommend people with the condition to avoid entering in contact with others. Scabies mites can live for up to a week without a human host. Thus, bed linens, towels, clothing and all the other personal items of people affected by scabies need to be properly washed in hot water to avoid a second infestation.

As an extra precaution, all the people who have entered in contact with patients diagnosed with scabies also need to follow an appropriate medical treatment, even if they donít show any clear signs of contamination. Scabies has an incubation period of around 1-2 weeks and most symptoms occur within this period of time. Once the parasite mites contaminate the skin, the first signs of scabies are skin inflammation, rash and persistent itch.

Scabies mites are microscopic organisms and their presence on a human host can be difficult to reveal. Also, most of the symptoms generated by scabies are unspecific and sometimes they can be misleading in the process of diagnosing the condition. The first revealing signs of scabies usually emerge a few weeks after infestation, allowing the parasite mites to proliferate and to spread in various regions of the body within this period of time. The presence of scabies in people can only be confirmed by careful physical examinations.

Soon after contamination, female scabies mites burrow into the skin and lay their eggs. The mites eggs contain substances that are very toxic to the human body, generating allergies and rash. After they hatch, the larvae climb to the skin surface, where they continue to develop into adult mites. Even if the larvae are spotted and removed from the skin, they can still survive for up to a week.

Scabies mites tend to infest less exposed regions of the skin. The female mites usually lay their eggs under the nails, in the skin folds between the fingers and toes, around the elbows, armpits, buttocks, or in the pubic region. In very young children or elderly people, scabies mites can even infest the scalp and face.

The symptoms of scabies occur as a result of allergic reactions to the mites eggs and feces. Within the first week from infestation, people with scabies develop rashes on the affected regions of the skin. Later symptoms include the presence of burrows, crusty aspect of the skin, blisters, pustules and even nodules. If the infestation with mites is not quickly eradicated, people affected by scabies are at risk of developing serious bacterial or fungal infections. If scabies is not appropriately treated, it can lead to skin disorders such as impetigo.

Scabies can be a very itchy problem, one that can actually sneak up on you if you are not aware of where you have been sleeping or if you are not watching who you are coming into contact with during sports events. The disease, scabies is one that is a little bug, one that you can’t see with your eyes, but one that will make a noticeable impression on your body. The tiny bug often lives in areas that are moist and warm on your body, such as the arm pits, or the genital areas, but can spread anywhere over the body.

Scabies is something that is not going to go away without taking medication. Scabies is a type of critter that is going to make your itch, and it seems as though the more you itch, the more you become even itchier, as this will also spread the critters to other areas of your body.

How do you get scabies?
Scabies is most often spread by touching the skin, by sleeping closely together, or having sex with another person who have scabies. Scabies is not something you can get by sitting on the toilet, or by casually walking by another person. If you are treating someone who has scabies, be sure to wear gloves and wash your hands while putting cream on the other person’s body so you don’t risk getting the disease. Often times between the fingers and under the nails are another way that people will transmit scabies and not even realize it.

The skin problem that causes tiny red bumps, that do not go away, that look like a rash actually are little bugs that are living in the skin. These things can be killed by simply using the scabies cream, putting it over your body for fifteen minutes, and then taking a shower. Repeating this process in just a few days is recommended to kill anything that may have hatched on the body since the last time you did take the cream.

It is recommended that you wash all your clothes in hot, very hot water and dry them completely in the dryer. You should use a bleach spray if possible on the bedding that you sleep on, and turn the mattress, using the bleach spray on the opposite side as well.

It doesn’t take much to purchase the cream. In many of the online pharmacies, you don’t even need a prescription to get the medication. If you don’t have the medication, you will find it will spread, and you will find it very hard to ignore the itching on your body. Getting the cream is going to be the answer to solving this little problem. You don’t have to tell anyone you have this problem, unless you have had a sleep over, shared some clothing that you took off and someone put on right away or if you are having sexual relations with someone. Remember only the closest physical contact is going to spread this disease.

Scabies is a skin condition caused by infection with scabies mites (Sarcoptes scabiei). Scabies mites are microscopic parasite organisms that burrow deep inside the skin, causing inflammation, itching and rash. Later symptoms of scabies are: crusty aspect of the skin, pustules, blisters and nodules. Most of the symptoms generated by scabies are actually allergic reactions to the mitesí eggs and feces which are toxic to the human body. Skin rash is the first symptom to occur when suffering from scabies, emerging after only a few days from contamination with the parasite mites. Scabies rash is very persistent and it can last for up to several weeks or months after the mite infestation has been eradicated.

Scabies is very contagious and the parasite mites responsible for causing the disease can be either acquired directly, by entering in contact with contaminated people or indirectly, by entering in contact with contaminated objects. Scabies is widespread in orphanages and nursing homes, due to overcrowding and poor hygiene. In order to prevent the occurrence of scabies, it is very important to maintain a good level of personal hygiene and to avoid sharing personal items with other people.

The mites responsible for causing scabies usually infest less exposed regions of the skin, such as armpits, feet, the areas between the toes, buttocks and pubic area. Scabies is usually diagnosed upon clinical signs of the disease. Although scabies mites are microscopic, their presence can be easily revealed by the traces they leave on the surface of the skin. The mitesí burrows can be observed with the naked eye and they are a clear indicator of scabies. In order to confirm the clinical diagnose, doctors often take samples of the inflamed skin for analysis under the microscope.

The medical treatment for scabies works on multiple levels; some medications are aimed at killing the parasite mites, while other medications are prescribed for alleviating the symptoms generated at the level of the skin. The treatment for scabies usually consists of topical creams or lotions for external use. Permethrin-containing creams are very effective in overcoming the infestation with mites and they are commonly prescribed in the treatment of scabies. In order to maximize its effects, the medications for scabies should be applied not only locally, but on the entire surface of the skin. While permethrin-based medications deal with the mite infestation, scabies rash and itch can be alleviated by taking frequent warm showers and baths. If the itch and rash are severe, doctors may also prescribe a treatment with hydrocortisone, antihistamine and analgesics.

Although the treatment for scabies can quickly eradicate the infestation with mites, the symptoms of scabies can persist for long periods of time. This is due to the fact that even after they die, the mites remain under the skin, continuing to produce allergies and skin rashes. In infants and very young children, the post-scabies rash can be very severe. After completing the treatment for scabies, many young children develop acropustulosis, a skin condition that can persist for more than a few months!

Due to its contagious character and its persistent symptoms, scabies is considered to be a very serious skin condition. Even with appropriate treatment, people affected by scabies can still develop widespread rashes and persistent allergies.

Scabies is a very contagious type of skin disorder caused by infestation with microscopic mites. The parasite mite that causes scabies in humans is called Sarcoptes scabiei var. hominis. This type of parasitic organism is the only scabies mite that can complete its life cycle on the bodies of human hosts. Although animal mites can also cause temporary allergic reactions to people, they are unable to infest humans.

The majority of symptoms generated by scabies occur as a consequence of allergic reactions to the mitesí secretions and eggs. The mites feed on human blood and they contaminate the skin with their bites, releasing substances that are toxic to the human body. Once they burrow within the epidermis, scabies mites cause inflammation, rashes and itch. If scabies is not discovered in time, the mite infestation can generate serious symptoms such as skin lesions and ulcerations, formation of crust, painful nodules, blisters and pustules. The skin regions affected by scabies are very vulnerable to bacterial infections and some patients also develop skin disorders such as impetigo.

There are many misconceptions and unfunded ideas regarding scabies. Due to the high incidence of scabies among people from lower classes of society, one would be tempted to believe that scabies is the result of inappropriate hygiene and unhealthy lifestyle. In fact, the level of hygiene doesnít really influence the occurrence or the development of scabies. Recent studies have revealed the fact that good personal hygiene canít effectively prevent infestation with scabies mites. At best, proper hygiene can only delay the occurrence of scabies and its generated symptoms.

The actual reason for the high incidence of scabies in less developed urban societies is overcrowding. Scabies is very contagious and it can be easily transmitted through direct physical contact. Thus, living in overcrowded conditions facilitates the spreading of scabies from one family member to another.

Scabies epidemics are very common in overcrowded orphanages, kindergartens, schools and hospitals. During scabies outbreaks, everyone should follow an appropriate treatment in order to prevent the occurrence of the disease.

Scabies mites can live for several days in the absence of a human host. Within this period of time, the parasitic scabies mites can easily infest bed sheets, towels, clothes and various personal items. Although scabies is rarely acquired indirectly, doctors strongly recommend washing any items that may be contaminated with scabies mites.

Scabies continues to be contagious even on the duration of the medical treatment. As a precaution, people affected by scabies should avoid entering in close contact with other persons until they complete the treatment prescribed by a dermatologist. When the symptoms of scabies persist for more than a week after the treatment, it is a possible sign of re-infestation with mites. If the doctor finds new traces of mite infestation, the treatment for scabies should be repeated.

Scabies is a very contagious skin condition that occurs due to infestation with parasitic mites. The mite responsible for causing scabies in people is a microscopic organism called Sarcoptes scabiei var. hominis. Although there are many other types of mites that cause scabies in animals, they are not capable of infesting humans.

Sarcoptes scabiei var. hominis can be acquired either directly, by entering in contact with infested persons, or indirectly, by entering in contact with contaminated objects. Once they find a human host, scabies mites climb onto the skin and hide in less exposed regions of the body. Scabies mites commonly infest the toes, feet, ankles, knees, the genitals, the buttocks, the upper back, elbows and wrists. Rarely, scabies mites can even infest the scalp and face.

While the first symptoms of scabies may occur within a week after acquiring the parasitic mites, the first clear signs of infestation can be spotted only after a few weeks. In the incipient stages of infestation, scabies generates symptoms such as persistent itching, skin inflammation and rash. Later symptoms include the presence of burrows in the superficial layers of the skin, blisters, pustules and even nodules. It is very important to avoid scratching, as it can lead to serious skin infections.

An appropriate medical treatment for scabies should be targeted towards eradicating the mite infestation as soon as possible. Nevertheless, the treatment for scabies should also ease the symptoms generated at the level of the skin.

Due to scabies mitesí increased resistance to topical creams and oral medications, many products that were successfully used in the treatment for scabies in the past are nowadays less effective in dealing with the mite infestation. In addition, many synthetic medications for scabies have various side-effects and are not well-tolerated by most patients.

There are many natural alternatives to synthetic medications in the treatment for scabies. One the most effective natural cure for scabies has proved to be Manuka extract. This natural product can quickly eradicate the scabies mite infestation and it can also alleviate the symptoms of scabies. While most synthetic topical creams may actually amplify the symptoms of scabies during the treatment, Manuka-based products can kill the mites and provide symptomatic relief in the same time. The antiseptic properties of Manuka can prevent the occurrence of bacterial infections, minimizing the chances of developing complications such as impetigo.

Manuka-based products have no side-effects and they can be safely used by people of all ages. This natural remedy can be purchased under the form of oil, cream or soap. Regularly applied on the entire surface of the affected skin, Manuka-based products can effectively cure scabies within the first week of treatment, also minimizing the risks of second-infestation.

The characteristics of rosemary essential oil can be described as a colorless or pale yellow mobile liquid with a strong, fresh, minty-herbaceous scent and a woody-balsamic undertone. It blends well with lavender, oregano, thyme, pine, basil, peppermint, elemi, cedarwood, petitgrain, cinnamon and other spice oils.

The principal constituents of rosemary essential oil are: pinenes, camphene, limonene, cineol, borneal, camphor, linalol, terpineol, octanone, and bornyl acetate. General actions on the physiology include: analgesic, antimicrobial, anti-oxidant, antirheumatic, antiseptic, antispasmodic, aphrodisiac, astringent, carminative, cephalic, cholagogue, choleretic, cicatrizant, cordial, cytophylactic, diaphoretic, digestive, diuretic, emmenagogue, fungicidal, hepatic, hypertensive, nervine, parasiticide, restorative, rubefacient, stimulant (circulatory, adrenal cortex, hepatobiliary), stomachic, sudorific, tonic (nervous, general), and vulnerary.

Scientists have found rosemary essential oil beneficial in the treatment of various ailments including: acne, baldness and hair care, dry & damaged over-processed hair, congested & dull skin, dandruff, aches & pains, arthritis, debility/poor muscle tone, gout, muscle stiffness, muscular cramp, poor circulation, low blood pressure, rheumatism, liver congestion, fever, nervous exhaustion, fatigue, neuralgia, sciatica, eczema, greasy or oily skin/scalp, insect repellent, lice, scabies, slack tissue, cellulitis, edema, water retention, sprains, strains, asthma, bronchitis, coughs, whooping cough, colic, indigestion, flatulence, dysmenorrhea, leucorrhea, colds/flu, headache, nervous tension, and stress-related conditions.

Although rosemary essential oil has many benefiting qualities, there are some contra-indications. High doses of rosemary essential oil taken orally have been found to be neurotoxic. It is recommended that people who are pregnant or have high blood pressure should not use rosemary essential oil, and people who are epileptic or show signs of epilepsy should not use rosemary essential oil in any instance. The camphor constituent in rosemary has been known to induce seizures in epileptics. In extremely rare instances rosemary essential oil has been found to induce epileptic-like seizures in people with no known medical history of seizures; however, scientists have found rosemary essential oil to be safe when used topically. It has been reported to be non-toxic, non-irritant (in dilution only), non-phototoxic and non-sensitizing.

Rosemary hydrosol is the plant distillate water remaining from producing the essential oil. Hydrosols are growing in demand and now some distilleries are making hydrosols as the primary production, not the by-product from distilling essential oils. Some hydrosols are edible but are best used as sprays for various things. Rosemary hydrosol has a surprising floral scent and taste, and when used as a drink has no sharpness. Consumers should practice safety when using hydrosols: The same contra-indications and safety warnings apply for both the hydrosol and essential oil of rosemary.

Rosemary hydrosol has been shown to be helpful with treatment concerning: the gallbladder, digestion, detoxification, as a diuretic, antioxidant, as a toner for oily to normal skin, protecting hair keeping it shiny and soft, dry and over-processed hair, acne, and as a circulatory stimulant. You can add it to your conditioners and shampoos for healthier hair or as an after-shower spray: just mist evenly throughout your hair, then comb through. It can also be used in the kitchen as a flavor enhancer.

These two forms of rosemary can be used topically to help with many specific ailments like scabies as well as general well-being. For those who find the odor of rosemary to be too sharp or prefer to take herbal extracts as supplements for general health, rosemary leaf extract is available for internal use. Rosemary leaf herbal extract acts as a circulatory and nervine stimulant, which in addition to the toning and calming effect on the digestion makes it a remedy that is used where psychological tension is present.

The main constituents in the herbal extract are: 1% volatile oil including borneol, linalol, camphene, cineole and camphor; tannins, bitter principle, and resins. These components have general actions and properties that are: carminative, aromatic, antispasmodic, antidepressant, rubefacient, parasiticide, antimicrobial, astringent, emmenagogue, nervine, and stimulant.

Published recommended dosage of rosemary leaf herbal extract is 1-2 ml of tincture 3 times per day. The herbal extract is primarily used for debility/poor muscle tone, depression, fibrositis, pain, and vomiting.

Scabies, a transmissible ectoparasite skin infection, is characterized by superficial burrows, secondary infection and intense itching. This makes good sense as the actual word ‘scabies’ is Latin for ‘itch’.

Unlike alot of different infections and diseases the cause of scabies is actually known. Caused by the mite, variety hominis, it intensifies which results in extremely itchy skin that rashes. This itchiness is because the pregnant female mites tunnel into the stratum corneum of the skin to deposit eggs in the burrow. Hatching in 3-10 days, the larvae, will move about in the skin. It is in the skin where they become mature adults. Adult mites will usually live in the skin for three to four weeks. Although, the mites aren’t able to live their entire life in the skin, they are able to cause alot of itching and hassle before they finally die.

As you can imagine the existance of mites in your skin is extremely irritating and creates a huge itch sensation. Often times this step will look alot like an allergic reaction on the skin, which isn’t far off as the presense of the mite eggs inside the skin will produce a humongous allergic response. All of this just leads to more itching which is extremely damaging to the skin. Scabies, as you can see is an absolute pain, as it causes constant irritation. If the itching sensation is given into on a regular basis, often times sores will develop on the skin, which in turn lead to increased risk of infection.

Sometimes classes as a sexual disease, scabies can easily transmit by prolonged skin-to-skin contact with an infected person. Often times it will rip through an entire household through the sharing of clothing, bedding or towels. These second hand methods of transmission are rarer, than first hand skin-to-skin, although they should still be noted. Three hundred million is the approximate number of scabies infestation cases around the world each year.

Scabies is a skin condition caused by infestation with microscopic parasite mites. Although it can be acquired by anyone, scabies has the highest incidence in very young children and the elderly. Scabies is highly contagious and it can cause serious endemics in overcrowded orphanages, nursing homes and asylums. Due to their limited mobility, infants and elderly people are the most exposed to acquiring scabies during outbreaks. On the premises of a weak immune system, scabies can lead to serious bacterial or fungal infections, causing serious complications.

Most of the symptoms of scabies occur due to allergic reactions to the mitesí secretions and eggs. Once they find a human host, female mites burrow within the epidermis and lay their eggs, causing pruritic rashes, skin inflammation and severe itch. Later symptoms include pustules, blisters and linear burrows.

People with compromised immune systems experience more intense symptoms of scabies and they present a higher risk of developing complications. When suffering from scabies, people with underlying immuno-deficitary conditions are very exposed to developing serious skin disorders such as impetigo. In addition to the common symptoms of scabies, people with weak immune systems can develop prominent skin lesions, nodules and crust.

Common topical creams for external use are usually ineffective in overcoming severe forms of scabies. While commonly used medications such as permethrin and lindane can eradicate the mite infestation in most people affected by scabies, patients with HIV and the elderly donít respond well to such forms of treatment. Administered to immuno-compromised patients, lindane can sometimes cause serious neurotoxic reactions. Thus, dermatologists usually recommend oral medications to people who suffer from severe forms of scabies and people with hypersensitivity to topical creams.

One of the most effective oral drugs used in the treatment of scabies has proved to be ivermectin. This strong oral medication can effectively overcome severe forms of infestation with mites such as crusted scabies. Although ivermectin has various side-effects, this type of oral medication is better tolerated than lindane or other topical medications for external use. In present, ivermectin is a reliable alternative to topical creams in the treatment for scabies.

Ivermectin is cheaper and more effective than other oral medications as well. Thanks to its strong curative properties, ivermectin can eradicate the infestation with scabies mites in a shorter period of treatment, thus minimizing eventual side-effects. Furthermore, ivermectin can also diminish the chances of a second infestation.

In present, ivermectin is still an experimental drug and it hasnít yet been approved for extended use. However, research results indicate that this type of oral medication has very few side-effects and it can be safely used in the treatment of scabies.

The alternative name given to itching is pruritus. It is a very common phenomenon which can bother an animal as well as a human. It is an irritation on the skin which creates a desire to scratch the itchy area. Itching can be caused due to a skin disorder or an infection which can affect the whole body.

Parasites which reside on our body like scabies, mites or lice are one of the reasons for itching. You can also be a victim of allergic reaction due to any of the triggering agents. Insect bites are another reason which can create this irritation. After itching continuously you may develop a rash which may subside after sometime or may cause further skin irritation.

Other than skin allergies or skin infections there are other disease like liver disease, kidney failure, lymphomas, leukemiaís and other blood disorder problems which causes itching. Many drugs too cause itching such as barbiturates and aspirin. Pregnancy, blisters, fungal infection, poison oak, poison ivy, insect sting, shingles, dandruff, eczema, scabies mites, threadworm are some other causes of itching. Cosmetics, dry skin in winter and over exposure to water can also cause itching. Prolonged sessions of itching would make things worse for your skin. It may leave behind a scar by the constant rubbing and scratching.

Home Remedies for Scabies Itching

Clean the affected area with lukewarm water either with a herbal soap or not.

After every bath moisturize your skin, this keeps it hydrated and prevents it from drying.

Add 2 cups of colloidal oatmeal in a tub of water and soak yourself in it. It is known as one of the foremost soothing agents of your skin. You can also use oatmeal as soap. Make a bundle of colloidal oatmeal wrapped in a handkerchief to be used as scrubber for your body.

Fill a bag with ice, zip it and wrap it with kitchen towel. Swallow 1 capsule of Benadryl. Ice makes the skin numb and Benadryl eases the itchy feeling.

Apply Vicks vapor rub on affected area to provide relief from skin irritation.

You can also apply aloe vera oil, cod liver oil, lemon juice, vitamin E oil, wheat germ oil or witch hazel tea on the affected area.

Cornstarch works great if put in bath water and also used for dusting the itchy areas.
